If you are unsure who controls the door, contact the university’s appropriate housing or facilities contact before arranging a change. Do not treat a campus door as an ordinary private-cylinder request simply because a key is missing.

For a house, apartment or room rented privately, begin with the landlord or property manager. Clarify whether the affected entrance is private to the unit or shared with other occupants. A unit key and a common-building key may be controlled by different people.

If a lock operates normally but earlier copies are uncertain, ask about rekeying suitable cylinders. If a bolt catches or the key needs increasing force, include the operating fault. A new key does not automatically correct damage or poor fitting.

Do not change shared hardware or remove components while waiting for permission. If you are locked out, say whether another authorized person has a working key and whether you can wait safely.
